Kuwaiti gas carrier hit by projectile in Gulf of Oman
AN LPG carrier was targeted while at anchor off Fujairah, in the Gulf of Oman on Monday night, causing minor damage to the vessel.
Security firm Vanguard said that the Kuwaiti-owned Gas Al Ahmadiah (IMO: 9849629) was hit by an unknown projectile while at anchor about 23 nautical miles east of Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, at 2301 hrs on March 16.
The Kuwait Oil Tanker Co-owned Gas Al Ahmadiah (IMO: 9849629) left Mariveles on February 18 and arrived in the Gulf of Oman on March 7.
The 84,000 cu m, 2020-built, Gas Al Ahmadiah was in ballast when it was hit, with its master reporting only minor structural damage after the attack. No crew were harmed in the incident.
This represented the 17th reported attack on a commercial vessel in the region since the start of the war on February 28 in the Middle East Gulf, and at least the fifth in the Gulf of Oman east of the Strait of Hormuz.
